In the 1940s-1980s, slingshots were very popular in the USA. A lot of manufacturers sold their slingshots by mail-order and in sproting goods shops. Back in this time, many different approaches to improve slingshots were made, and a variety of materiel was used for bands and frame. The rise of the easy to produce modern slingshot with tubular latex bands and bent-metal frame pushed most of these small manufactuers out of business. The result was a decline in variety and many lost ideas.
